The City of Goodview follows State Law, which prohibits all open burning. Residents who wish to conduct non-recreational burns must apply for an annual burn permit through the DNR website.
Definition of Open Burning
Open Fire or Open Burning is defined as any fire that is not contained within a fully enclosed firebox or structure and allows the products of combustion to be released directly into the open atmosphere without passing through a stack, duct, or chimney.
Recreational Fires
Outdoor fires are used exclusively for cooking, warmth, or recreational purposes, including those in outdoor fireplaces—are allowed. These fires may not be used to burn litter, refuse, garbage, leaves, or paper. The permitted fire size must not exceed a diameter of 3 feet and a height of 2 feet. Fires must never be left unattended, and a method for immediate extinguishment must always be available.
Fires within a ring made of noncombustible materials must be located at least 50 feet from any combustible structure. If the fire is within 50 feet, it must be covered with a protective spark-arresting screen across the entire top of the ring. Burning must be conducted so that dense smoke and noxious fumes are not produced, avoiding any nuisance to neighboring properties.
